Exhibition Area

In 2011, thanks to the collaboration between the Foundation, the Historical Archive and other cultural institutions, the exhibition area “Documentation and Study Center on Sartiglia” was created.

The centre is located in Via Eleonora 15, in a historical building, called Palazzo Sanna, intended for the activities of the Oristano Foundation.

Among the tasks of the centre are the research, analysis and study of sa Sartiglia. The main goal is to get a deeper understanding of the event, its origins and its evolution over time.

The Documentation and Study Center on Sartiglia, collaborating with the Municipal Historical Archive of Oristano and numerous other archives, has begun the research and cataloguing of all documents that inform about sa Sartiglia and the other festivals that recall sa Sartiglia that were held in the cities of Cagliari, Sassari and Iglesias during the seventeenth century.

COLLECTIONS OF THE DOCUMENTATION CENTRE ON SARTIGLIA

On the occasion of Sartiglia of 2019, the Documentation Centre on Sartiglia opened an interactive exhibition about sa Sartiglia

The exhibition recounts the history and stories of sa Sartiglia in an experiential and educational path that focuses on the key players, the different phases of the event and all documents related.

The exhibition is designed to promote the race by illustrating its history and describing its evolution over the centuries. The main objective is to make this tradition known by showing the allure of its ancient rituals and highlighting its underlying values.

The tour begins with the presentation of the Gremi, the ancient institutions that are historically responsible for the Sartiglia; it continues with the display of horse race relics and its key players; a special section is dedicated to the rosette and their making.

The atmosphere of the race and the stunts of the riders during Pariglie is rendered thanks to the numerous multimedia devices that show images and documents from past and most recent editions of the horse race.
